Kalpourgan village in Sistan and Baluchistan province has become one of the wonders of Iranian culture. Kalpourgan, a village 25 km from Saravan city and 390 km southeast of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province, is a place of pottery of the same name, and what distinguishes Kalpourgan from other places today is its pottery art.
"Kalpore" is the name of a medicinal plant for treating heartache that grows in Balochistan. But their art is like a caress for the soul of the people of the metropolis.
Pottery in this village has a delay of seven thousand years and has a world record. This sentence is spoken by a village lady with pride and generation after generation the people of this village have been making pottery without the use of pottery wheels and tools, all the pottery making in this village is done by hand, but considering all the characteristics of this village from the point of view of tourism , is deprived, maybe before that, when the name of Sistan and Baluchistan is mentioned, the issue of drought and small dust is raised, but the point is that in this province and in the village of Kalpourgan, children do not have proper schools.
" Kalpourgan " pottery is the handiwork of Baloch women artists whose production method has remained unchanged since 7 thousand years ago. Many villages in Saravan have good soil, which is used to develop pottery and pottery in these villages, especially in Kalpourgan village of this city.
Locals say about making pottery: The interesting thing about making this pottery is that no pottery wheel is used to make them, and the jars are shaped by the art of Baloch women's hands. Also, no glaze is used to decorate the earthenware, and their ornamentation is geometric designs that include a combination of empty and solid circles, as well as semicircles and lines, which are reminiscent of ancient patterns.
"Tituk" stone is used to decorate and paint pottery; This stone is a type of manganese stone with a brown or black colour. By grinding Tituk stone on a large stone slab with some water poured on it, a slurry is prepared that provides the colour needed for painting pottery.
Kalpourgan pottery has various shapes and uses, such as jugs, hookahs, all kinds of containers such as bowls, plates, pitchers, sugar bowls, and smoking pewter. Although Kalpourgan pottery has not been introduced to the world as it deserves, the originality and beauty of this hand art dazzles the eyes of every viewer. Most of the men in this village are engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture, which of course has decreased due to the drought, and together with the women, they prepare the kiln for making pottery.
The world's only living pottery museum is located in the tourist village of " Kalpourgan" in Saravan city, where Baloch women have been producing pottery for thousands of years using ancient traditions, tools and designs, whose production method has remained unchanged for 7,000 years ago.
Kalpourgan pottery became more famous in the world due to the fact that it is very similar to prehistoric pottery, so that the current production of these pottery is very similar to the works discovered from ancient sites in different regions.
